After a copy of a painting by Cesare Sesto (Museo Poldi Pezzoli). The copy was sold at Christie's London (10 April 1981, lot 51). Sesto's painting is obviously indebted to Leonardo's 'Virgin and Child with St Anne' in the Louvre (inv. 776). See Carminatti, 'Cesare da Sesto', 1994, cat. No.12, pp 183-186.
