Description
Title-page border with four separate strips, with Greek and Roman philosophers, writers and the coronation of Homer; at the top-centre the bust of Solomon, flanked by two philosophers on either side; the horizontal strips are divided into five compartments, each containing two scholars; in the lower section Homer is being crowned at a well by Calliope, the remaining eight muses stand on either side; first used in Strabo, Geographicorum comentarii ..., Basel, V. Curio, March 1523 (2°); this impression was used as title-page to Clemens Romanus, Recognitionum Libri X ..., Rufino Torano Aquileiense Interprete ..., Basel, J.
