This impression is from the published volumes of "Pastorals of Virgil", half bound in calf gilt with marbled boards (recently repaired). The Department of Prints and Drawings holds two volumes which have a total of 230 illustrations. The introduction to Volume 1, page vi states that: "Thurston, Craig, Cruikshanks, Blake and Varley were selected for the designs and "the most eminent engravers on wood" Nesbit, Clennell, Branston, Bewick, Thomson, Hughes, Byfield, Williams, Lee, Mackenzie and Sears were employed for the"cuts." Despite the contributions from well known artists and wood engravers, many of the illustrations are anonymous.
