- Curator's comments
- The scene is taken from George Crabbe's "Tale XIII, Jesse and Colin", and the print is based on a watercolour that Setchel exhibited at the New Society of Painters in Water Colours in 1850. The print was registered by Lloyd Bros. with the Printsellers' Association on 8 January 1850 (see PSA (Vol. 1) p. 164) with a note stating that it had been formerly announced under the title "And Ye Shall Walk in Silk Attire"; there were 150 artist's proofs at £4.4s.; 25 presentation prints; 150 proofs before letter at £3.3s.; 150 lettered proofs at £2.2s.; and an unrecorded number of lettered prints.
