Two scenes in rectangular frames representing participants in a lottery before and after the 20th October, with letterpress text below. The 'before' scene showing large woman in a bonnet looking out of a window with a sign on the same building reading "State Lottery 200,000 Drawn in One Day", and below her downcast young woman being pushed away from her beloved by his father, a dog barking at his feet. The 'after' scene showing seated father with gouty leg, and the young man, now a soldier, brandishing the lucky lottery ticket "Prize of 20, 000", thus winning the young woman's hand in marriage.
