f. 14 recto (no. 27)
As observed by Bober (1957, p. 81) these two portals with flanking caryatids are of free invention. The caryatids at the left seem inspired by a Diana of Ephesus type; those at the right, roughly derived from the della Valle Pan Statues (cf. London I, BM 1898,1123.3.45 left opening). Aspertini's interest in decorative architectural elements and structures can be seen in some painted panels found in the church of San Girolamo della Certosa in Bologna (see R. Martorelli, in 'Amico Aspertini. Artista bizzarro nell'età di Dürer e Raffaello', exhibition catalogue Bologna 2008-09, pp. 236-7).
As noted by Elen (1995, p. 316), the red seal print and buff stain at the bottom of the page, find symmetrical equivalents on 1862,0712.404 verso, suggesting that ff. 1862,0712.405 and 406 where once part of a single bifolio inserted between the present drawing and 1862,0712.404.

f. 14 verso (no. 28)
The landscape of this drawing and on ff. 1862,0712.418r, 422r, and 426r has been put in relation with that of the 'Mystic Marriage of St Catherine' panel by Aspertini in Florence (Faietti-Scaglietti 1995, cat. dip. 47, p. 193 and exh cat. Bologna 2008/2009, cat. 69, p. 228). See also f. 1862,0712.429v
