'Oeuvres choisies de Gavarni, revues, corrigéses et nouvellement classées par l'Auteur. Études de moeurs contemporaines' (Paris: Hetzel) 1846, volume I of IV; containing 4 series of prints after Gavarni by various printmakers: 39 plates for 'Les Enfants Terribles' (1845), 5 plates for 'Traduction en Langue Vulgaire' (1845), 25 plates for 'Les Lorettes' (1846) and 11 plates for 'Les Actrices' (1846); each series preceded by a preface and illustrated title-page by different artists. Including frontispiece by Lorentz showing Gavarni painting on an easel, his back to the viewer, within a border of illustrations made by the artist, the image Gavarni paints on canvas is used as a vignette at the title-page; Gavarni's biography and list of illustrations at the end. Bound in the BM bindery in green leather with raised bands and gold tooled lettering on spine, marbled endpapers and gilded edges.
