- Curator's comments
- From a series of twenty-four copies in reverse of a set engraved by Callot around 1621/22; for comment see 1861,0713.875. For the complete set of copies see 1861,0713.1635-1658. Dutch song lyrics and music scores are printed at the back of these impressions; from "De Carneval van Roomen, of De vastenavonds vermaaklykheden", published by Van Hulkenroy (Haarlem: 1718) see 1860,0728.670. See also Jasper van Putten, 'Het inkleuren van boekillustraties als tijdverdrijf aan het begin van de achttiende eeuw', in De Boekenwereld 23 (2006-2007), pp.2-10 (information from Mark van Nieuwstadt). The types seem to belong to the 18th century, but the plates are most likely 17th century copies.
