John Burnet, 'A practical treatise on painting. In three parts. Consisting of hints on composition, chiaroscuro, and colouring. The whole illustrated by examples from the Italian, Venetian, Flemish, and Dutch schools' (London, James Carpenter) 1827; containing 25 plates with tissue guards by John Burnet after other artists and old masters showing techniques related to painting and drawing: 9 plates on composition, 8 plates on light and shade, and 8 plates on colour. Together with frontispiece showing portrait of John Burnet by Fox after Denning, dedication to Thomas Lawrence, and preface for each book. Bound in red half-leather, with marbled boards, god tooling on spine, raised bands and marbled endpapers.
