- Curator's comments
- According to the legend, the oath was declared between three confederates, Arnold de Melchtal, Walter Fürst et Werner Stauffacher, repesenting the communities of the valleys of Uri, Schwytz and Unterwald. The legend has been confused with an actual historial event in 1291, a pact of alliance between the three communities which constitute present dty Switzerland.
