Dr Rock's Political Speech to the Mob in Covent-Garden
Description
A broadside satire on the quack Richard Rock, a second state of an etching originally published in April 1743 (see G,6.4). In this state the background has been burnished out and the Methodist preachers George Whitfield and John Wesley are shown, handkerchiefs in their hands, addressing large crowds, predominantly of women; a gibbet and a gallows can be seen in the distance beyond Whitfield. 1743 Etching and engraving
