'Miscellaneous works in verse and prose of John Bancks. Adorned with sculptures, and illustrated with notes. The first volume' (London, T. Aris), 1738; containing 10 etchings serving as large headpieces and 2 etchings serving as tailpieces, showing images illustrating some of the texts: 1. a woman with a lyre by a lake with swans and a Pegasus in the back to the right, etching by Bickham for 'Freedom and the Muse', 2. tailpiece showing a donkey's head, 3. a couple dancing, etching by Bickham for 'Bashful Ben', 4. a group of very drunk men around a table, etching by Bickham for 'To Mr Hogarth on his modern midnight conversation', 5. a woman throwing a bucket of water from her window to the street, the water hitting a nicely dressed woman that stands with a friend, etching by Bickham to 'They will do it', 6. a woman crying pointing to an empty armchair, etching by Bickham for 'The elbow chair', 7. a man on a carriage, etching by Parr for 'Saying and doing are two things', 8. a busy room with a man on a desk at the centre, a pregnant woman being led to him, etching by Basire for 'The substitute father', 9. Three figures on a circle on the floor including two women embracing, a cat, candle, caldron and bell to the left, etching by Basire for 'The exorcism', 10. tailpice showing festive scene with Bacchus being carried by satyrs, etching by Basire, 11. a woman covering a sleeping/dead figure, the door open on the left, etching by Basire(?) for 'The game of put', 12. two men talking, one of them making a show, etching by Birkham for 'Balaam's pedigree'. Together with frontispiece, woodcut initial letters, head and tailpieces. Including praise by John Duick and Moses Browne, preface, and table of contents, the letterpress on the title-page printed in black and red. Bound in tan leather with raised bands and gold lettering on label at the spine.
