Ghezzi's inscription reads: "Signor Abbot Guido Bottari Florentine [initially wrote Neapolitan and then he crossed it out], blood brother of Monsignor Bottari Canon in Santa Maria in Trastevere. Signor Abbot Guido has an income of five hundred scudi from his pension, made by me Cavalier Ghezzi on 20 October 1752. The sitter is distributing Marzolini, flasks of Florentine wine, with an owl and umbrella, which arrived from Florence for him to sell in Rome, and it will suffice that he is from Florence"
The sitter is the brother of Giovanni Gaetano Bottari (1689-1775).
The marzolino is a Tuscan sheep cheese, a type of pecorino.
