In the inscription Ghezzi states that the sitter was a blood nephew of Cardinal Aldrovandi who came to Rome to protect the pope on 12 March 1752 and that he made the caricature on the 16 March
Possibly Conte Raniero Aldrovandi (1694-1760), who was the nephew of Cardinal Pompeo Aldrovandi. The latter had died a couple of months before this caricature and Raniero had inherited all of his assetts. Raniero is recorded as lay papal chamberlain ('cameriere di cappa e di spada'; note both cape and sword in the drawing) between 1753 and 1758 (cf. Claudio De Dominicis, Chi era chi? Uffici, cariche ed officiali della Roma pontificia, Vol. I; anni 1716-1798, Roma 2011).
See M. Troilo, 'L'élite economica bolognese nell'età moderma (secoli XVII-XVIII)' in "Studi Storici Luigi Simeoni", LXI, 2011, pp. 53-66 for more information of the Aldrovandi family.
