Ghezzi states in the inscription that Father Boscovich was a Jesuit teaching mathematics at the Collegio Romano.
Boscovich was born in Ragusa in Croatia and in 1725 went to Rome where he was educated by the Jesuits. Entered the novitiate in 1731 and was ordained in 1744. In 1740 was appointed to teach mathematics in the Collegio Romano.
A full length caricature of Boscovich by Ghezzi is in the Vatican Library, Codice Ottoboniano Latino 3118, c. 33; while Ghezzi identifies him in both drawings, the features are not comparable (M.C. Dorati da Empoli, "Pier Leone Ghezzi. Un protagonista del Settecento Romano", Rome 2008, p. 283; for an online illustration Digi.Vatlib.it).
