- This is the first state of the print before the addition of the address of Andreani. On the verso is a counterproof of an early impression of the tone block of Vicentino's Virgin and Child with Saints (B.23) . The sheet is inscribed in black ink 'f. parmesan' (i.e. Parmigianino).
See Naoko Takahatake, 'The chiaroscuro woodcut in Renaissance Italy', Los Angeles 2018, cat.55 to 57, who reproduces three variant impressions. The composition is taken from Pordenone's facade of c.1535 on the Palazzo d'Anna in Venice.
This is one of two impressions of the print in the BM printed in Vicentino's workshop in the 1540s. It was later reprinted by Andrea Andreani (see W,4.88).
For further information and bibliography see the entry by Naoko Takahatake and Linda Stiber Morenus on the online catalogue 'Atlante delle xilografie italiane del Rinascimento', ALU.0196.1.
