- Advertised in the 'Gazette de France', 11 September 1787 at price of 6 livres; the present plate is the first state before Hoin's name on stone in l bottom corner and before artist's names underneath.
The scene shows the heroine, driven mad by the supposed death of her fiancé, in the grove where they first declared their love, to which she returns every day. See 'Colourful Impressions', Washington 2003, cat.66.
