- Acquisition notes
- 1856,0308.1349 to 1389 (etchings by Claude, the Rev. E T Daniell and a few others) were all registered as 'Purchased at Messrs Christie's'. Given that some of them have Chambers Hall's stamp, it is very likely that they came from his posthumous sale on 14 March 1856, even though the register numbers assigned were on 8 March. There is no copy of the catalogue in the BM to check, but they have been provisionally entered as purchased from Chambers Hall through Christie's. In this case no dealer was employed to act as the BM's agent.
