- Curator's comments
- From 'Galerie du Palais Royal', a set published between 1786 and 1808; see 1837,0408.317 for comment.
Possibly engraved after a painting shown at an exhibition in Paris in 1929, and which Fröhlich-Bum attributed to Francesco Bassano. Other versions reminiscent of the composition reproduced on this print include a painting in the national gallery of Prague attributed to Francesco, another in the church of Santa Maria della Misericordia (Venice) attributed to Jacopo & Francesco, and finally one in the Museo Civico in Bassano. See Enrica Pan, 'Jacopo Bassano e l'incizione', 1992, cat. No.134.
