Curator's comments
Hind misdated this print c.1556 (see Hind I p.6 note 1). The actual date was discovered by Malcolm Jones in the Stationers Register, where it was entered on 6 March 1630 (see Arber IV p.196). The name Ghest is included among the martyred, but he has not been identified. This is one of a number of earlier prints used by Henry Holiday in his illustrations to Lewis Carroll, The Hunting of the Snark, 1876 (information from Goetz Kluge, June 2016)
