- Curator's comments
- From a series of seven plates representing the Liberal Arts and the Virtues, and reproducing the decoration designed by Bourdon at the Hôtel de Bretonvilliers (1663). The original paintings are now lost.
Four states are known: first state, with Fricquet's address and with the border left blank; second state, with Drevet's address and the borders filled with horizontal lines; third state, with Surugue's address; fourth state, modern impression.
See Jacques Thuillier, 'Sébastien Bourdon 1616-1671', Paris 2000, pp.406-407.
