Curator's comments
Part of a series of 46 engravings (L Nos. 8-53), copied after the Master ES, the Master of the Berlin Passion and others. This one is a copy after the Master ES (Lehrs 171), and according to Lehrs, this subject constitutes the title-page of the series. Three further impressions from the series at the BM have a different provenance and are not coloured. This engraving is one of 42 prints in the BM similarly decorated and inscribed from a Flemish prayerbook formerly in the abbey of St Peter in Ghent, see 1846,0709.22 for full details.
