"Specimens of Ornamental Art selected from the best models of ornamental art of the Classical epochs, illustrated by 80 plates, by Ludwig Gruner, with descriptive text by Emil Braun", the complete portfolio containing a titlepage with a vignette of a group from the 'School of Athens' (1853,0212.105), dedication by Gruner to Prince Albert 'by his Royal Highness's special command', and a list of plates in letterpress, and 80 lithographic plates or details of historic ornament (1853,0212.106 to 185), many in chromolithography (London, published by Thomas McLean, 26, Haymarket, 1850).
The plates are divided into four parts:
Part 1 (sheets 1-29): Architecural ornaments, monochrome designs etc.
Part II (sheets 30-36): Pompeiana
Part III (sheets 37-62): Church ornaments
Part IV (sheets 63-80): Palaces
