A pair of dancers, encircled by a border of leaves and flowers with music-making cupids, a pair of lovers reclining below; the sleeve of the young man in the centre is inscribed: 'AME DROIT'; circular format. c.1465-80

- Curator's comments
- The present engraving belongs to the so-called 'Otto Prints'; for this group see the commentary to Hind, A.IV.2 (1852-3-1-3).
The dancers are partly copied, in reverse, from a similar couple in the 'Planet Venus' print (Hind, A.III.5a.I); Brockhaus supposed that the present print might be that described as 'forma da cenboli, in foglio comune' in the Francesco Rosselli Inventory of 1525. Another version is in the Rothschild Collection (Louvre, Paris). For comments on the print see A. Wright, in exh. cat., London, National Gallery, 'Renaissance Florence. This print was issued as a black and white facsimile by the British Museum in 'Prints and Drawings in the British Museum, Reproduced by Photographic Process', [First Series] Part I (Italian Prints), Published by the Trustees in 1882, where it was number XI and described there as 'Anonymous. Design for Plate - Cavalier and Lady Dancing, c.1450.'; (Shelfmark 245*.b.12).
