For more information about the history and context of the "Description of the Chapel of the Annunziata dell'Arena; or, Giotto's Chapel in Padua", see the curatorial comment to 1850,1014.1028.1.
The physiognomies of the three figures Callcott selected to represent from this fresco - Mary, Joseph and the Priest - are again those of a nineteenth-century artist rather than of the Trecento, and he also omitted the flowering rod in Joseph's left hand that is present in the original fresco.
