This figure is a copy of one of the fourteen grisaille personifications of the virtues and vices painted by Giotto (in opposing pairs on the south and north walls of the chapel) underneath the narrative frescoes. Giotto created illusionistic niches in which the virtues and vices, painted to look like marble sculptures, are situated.
