The beached sperm whale near Berkhey; the dead whale lying on the sand, the head to right, two men standing on the whale, one cutting into the flesh with an axe; a group of people gather around the tail end and attempt to measure the length of the body, another bystander clambers on the member of the whale; beyond, crowds making their way to the spectacle. 1598
