- This woodblock was used for the twenty-third plate of the series Small Passion, which was first published as a book in Nuremberg in 1511.The book consists of a woodcut title-page and 36 illustrations, all with letterpress text on the verso, and a final page with impressum and colophon on the recto.
Thirty-five of the thirty-seven used woodblocks are in the British Museum.
This block, probably pearwood, was cut along a tangential longitudinal section of the wood-grain ( Scientific Research Department, Dec.1993).
see Renaissance Prints, BM exh.cat (1995), no.28.
