- The scene is incorrectly identified in the title, as the action portayed here is loosely based on act IV, scene VII, which includes the lines spoken by Lear which are quoted below this print. The line from Cordelia is a fabrication or reflects contemporary alteration of Shakespeare's text. See von Erffa and Staley, Nos. 212-214, pp. 273-6.
