- Provenance: Baron Anselm von Rothschild, Vienna, by 1866 (cat. no. 354).
Commentary: Berchtold Holzschuher was born in Nuremberg and became its mayor in 1551. In the following year he resigned from office and was devoted to the exploitation of its silver and copper mine to Stollhofen in Styria. The monogram 'M.S.' occurs on several other known pieces. They are almost certainly the work of a Nuremberg artist.
