Box (tobacco-box ?), birch-bark, circular, decorated with pattern formed of twisted metal (pewter?) wires sewn on with thread; the lid with floral pattern, the base with foliage wreath enclosing initials; Sloane number in black ink on inside of lid. A double layer of birch-bark throughout, the stitches taken through both layers on sides of lid and base so that they are clearly visible on the interior surfaces.

- Text from Hans Sloane Manuscript Catalogue: 'A Tobacco Box made of ye Bark of the Birch tree curiously ornamented wt Tin or Lead by the Laplanders in their own country.'
Possibly made by the Sámi people of northern Sweden, Finland or Norway.
