Context: Hallstatt D2 and D3 brooches
Double-drum brooch: (‘Doppelpaukenfibel’; Mansfield, G., 1973, ‘Die Fibeln der Heunburg 1950-1970’ (Römisch-Germanisch Forschungen, 33), Berlin, 30-37, form dP).
1. Form dP2, with foot decoration A2, bow 3a and three-piece construction. Hallstatt D2 at the Heuneburg, earlier than the other Hallstatt D brooches found in Champagne. There are others from Charvais grave 34 and Les Jogasses grave 134.
-
Hallstatt D brooches were small and light. They often had drum-like ornaments on the bow. The spring mechanisms on these brooches were prone to failure.
