Fragment from bronze belt chain including hook fitting. Ring hook-plate with simple hook and a low cordoned collar on the outside only. With it are three flat rings, 22-3 mm diameter, and another more rounded in section, 24 mm diameter; none of them markedly worn on the inside. Also a crudely cast ring, 38 mm diameter, deeply notched at two opposite points on the outside; flat on the back, three raised concentric rings on the front - the middle one partly destroyed by the large central oval perforation.

Bronze belt chains are found in women's graves in Champagne, in La Tène Ic and II (Fig. 2, type j); Déchelette, J., 1914, ‘Manuel d’archéologie préhistorique, celtique, et gallo-romaine’ 2, 3 ‘Second âge du fer ou épogue de La Tène’, Paris, 1230-35.
Rings and hooks: The rings are flat and unlinked. Belts of this type have been found in La Tène Ic and II contexts at Caurel 'la Fosse Minore' grave 33 and 34; Gourgançon 'les Poplainnaux' grave 25; Liry graves 6, 17 and 23; Loisy-sur-Marne grave 4 (cf. Cabart, H., and Ravaux, J.-P., 1987, Les objets en verre dans les collections archéologiques du Musée de Châlons-sur-Marne, ‘Mémoires de la société d’agriculture. Commerce, sciences et arts du départment de la Marne’ (102), 29 -31, no. 16, pl. 5, no. 1); Normée grave 25; Pogny graves 5, 6 and 8; St-Benoît-sur-Seine graves 6B, 11, 16 and 54 (with traces of the leather belt); Trouans II grave 1; Villesneux grave 6; and there are five rings from a similar belt in a La Tène Ib context at Molins-sur-Aube (Le Clert, L., 1898, ‘Musée de Troyes: Bronzes, catalogue descriptif et raisonné’ Troyes, 116-20, pl. 35; Bienaimé, J., 1989, ‘Les Tricasses et la nécropole de St.Benoît-sur-Seine’, Troyes, 36, fig. 22).
