Text from A. Dawson, french Porcelain, A catalogue of the British Museum Collection, London, 1994:
Pierre Renault was a witness in a dispute between Bernard Huet, a sculptor at the Orléans porcelain factory, and its owner Gérault d'Areaubert in 1767 (The documents relating to the dispute are quoted by E. Piot, 'Etudes Céramiques, la manufacture royale de faience fine et de porcelaine étable Orléans en 1753', Le Cabinet de l'Amateur, Paris, 1863,, pp. 131-3).He was called sculpteur et répareur figuriste. Nothing is known about his earlier or his later career.
A merchant called Hennique is listed by Chavagnac (Chavagnac and Grollier, 1906, p. 377, taken from Archives de la Seine, registres du commerce 1924) as selling 'Quatre grandes figures assises, de concert et de jardinage' at 28 livres on 26 November 1767. Ten years later in preparation for a visit of the King's brother, Monsieur (Louis-Stanislas-Xavier, compte de Provence)), a description of Gérault's works were drawn up in which three repairers in the sculpture workshop are mentioned as working on 'Figures de jardinages et de vendanges' (Ibid. Archives de la Seine, registres de commerce 1924).
