Curator's comments
This teabowl has long been considered a highly important documentary work for the study of Augsburg 'Hausmalerei' (independent house or home painters), as it bears the monogram I A W, for Johann Aufenwerth above 'Augsburg'. Literature: Pazaurek 1925, vol. 1, 113, fig. 84; W. B. Honey, 'European Ceramic Art', London, 1949, pl. 150A; H. Jedding, 'Europäisches Porzellan', Munich, 1971, Band I, p. III/202, fig. 585. S. Ducret, 'Meissner Porzellan bemalt in Augsburg, 1718 bis um 1750', Braunschweig, 1971, Band I, Abb. 346, 76; and Dawson 1985, 17.
