A woman's shirt / chemise; ankle length and waisted. Long sleeves, with a gathered neckline. Made of natural cream-coloured tabby woven hemp (?) cloth with cotton patterning; hand stitched. Top and skirt made from three complete fabric widths [44 cms]. Solid black vertical embroidered line (inner) and a line of geometric motifs (three black alternating with two red) (outer) either side of 'V'-shaped neck opening. The upper back has the outer embroidery pattern, worked in black cotton yarns. The upper sleeve has a rectangular panel (double thickness) of polychrome bands (red, yellow, green, blue, white) on a black 'ground'; tabby woven, not embroidered. The outer panel on the lower sleeve has vertical lines of small yellow, red and green rectangles on a black 'ground'; worked in supplementary weft. Separating the woven patterning is a band of yellow embroidered diamonds. Lower sleeve gathered onto small cuff.

- Text from Eth Doc 605: 'a blouse / chemise, a 'cămaşă'. From an aunt. Home-produced, spun and woven hemp, 'cînepă'; home-embroidered with cotton home-woven applied sections. Circa 100 years old * Mrs C talking (44 years old); her mother is circa 70 years old.'
