- Curator's comments
- Text from Eth Doc 605: 'Donated and made by Elena Bocancea. 'Pres' (carpet) made of hemp ('cînepă'). In fact when made (and when Elena Bocancea was unmarried) this was only used on beds or walls; floors were bare earth. Only circa 30 years ago they started putting carpets on the floor, and putting down floorboards. The cînepa was grown and processed at home. She didn't grow cînepa once married; it is a difficult process. Times change; things are easier now. Elena Bocancea kept some lengths of 'pres' (again a longer length from which this cut) as a souvenir since they are no longer made. Circa 50 years old.'
