A woman's square cotton headscarf / scarf, bordered on two sides with a band of red, tabby woven cotton cloth, edged with knotted (?) trim. Made from natural cream cotton ground, tabby woven, commercially produced [80 cms weaving width]. One corner is embroidered with geometric embroidery: a large '+'-shaped motif in the corner surrounded by three identical composite motifs, with a diamond within a square at the centre. Worked in cross stitch using red, blue, green and pale pink (faded?) wool yarns, outlined in black. A narrow embroidered border on two sides, a line of 'Z'-shaped motifs, using the same materials. Tassels made of plied natural cotton and (separately) coloured wool yarns, mainly deep red, with some pink, blue and green. Staining in one area.

'Married women in many districts of Bosnia wear their hair in two plaits hanging down over either shoulder in front, and as a 'head-dress' have a diagonally folded kerchief, generally cream or white in colour, whith the back corner embroidered and a red ribbon along the edge. In the coastal district a fringe is also added to the head-dress.'
