Description
Earthenware jug, tin-glazed; painted in blue with flowers and leaves; pewter cover with lead medallion symbolising the rivalry between Louis XIV and House of Orange and with an inscription and two suns enclosing numerals; two stamps; thumb-plate with seven stamped stars; pewter base ring; three stamps on inside of cover.

Curator's comments
According to Dr van Dam of the Rijksmuseum, this decoration first appeared around 1695-1700 on pieces made by the Kam family in Delft. It remained popular for decades. There are a number of pieces of delftware with this decoration in the Musee Sandelin, Saint-Omer
