- Curator's comments
- This is not a H&D IIA since the belt-plate is combined with a belt-stiffener at the end and this type, which, appears to be continental in origin at least, doesn't occur in their scheme. Sommer's map (p. 105, Karte 2) shows the main distribution in northern Gaul and along the Rhine-Danube frontier. The integral stiffener forms the first of a set of separate propeller-shaped mounts, as with the lion-headed buckle from Vert-la-Gravelle, grave 6 (from Böhme 1974). Possibly create a type H&D IIE to relate them to other H&D types? (Ager pers. comm.).
