Timepiece in faux-leather covered wooden strut case incorporating thermometer.
Case:
Brown faux-leather covered wooden stand, with decorative cast brass front plate. Gilt brass thermometer scale, brass filigree cover to mercury bulb. Brass drum case holding movement. Built-in winding key on back with hand-set button in centre of key. Regulation lever projeting from base to rear of case.
Dial:
Circular dial with celluloid chapter ring having outer dotted minute track with diamond dotted five minute markers and decorative arabic hour numerals (1-12). Central pressed brass disc. Blued steel spade hour and minute hand.
Movement:
'Gnat' 8-day timepiece, pin-pallet escapement.

The 'gnat' movement was first introduced in 1890, the dial on this example suggests a manufacture date probably after 1893.
Items 2017.8031.13 has a Gnat movement mounted in a shaped wooden case, but in this example the Gnat movement is integral, rather than the standard model (with feet and ring) placed into another stand. Standard movement except modified drum case aperture and advance & retard lever to accommodate the case.
