- Description

Cast copper alloy vehicle fitting, possibly part of a linch-pin. It is lentoid in form and concave in profile. The outside surface is ornamented with raised decoration in the 'plastic' style. The pattern comprises raised lobes and circles bordered by 'psuedo stitching'. The interior surface is smooth and undecorated with traces of iron residue near the centre.

- The 'Plastic Style' decoration on this piece is a style more commonly seen on the Continent, and so the object may be an ancient import into Britain.

- In May 2013 Mr Paraskevaides submitted an Export Licence request to export the object to the United States (REF:PAE/00716/13). The export was successfully stopped in November 2013 by the Export Licence Committee at the request of Dr Fraser Hunter of the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh. Rather than request the British Museum acquire the object from him as he was entitled to do, Mr Paraskevaides kindly decided to donate the object to the British Museum
