Shortly after the takeover of English Clock and Watch Manufactures by Smiths, the De Luxe clock was introduced to the market. It's design had been progressing for some time under ECWM, but they never finalised it.
It has some cheaper features, together with some which were quite expensive, such as a solid brass block on top of the gong stand (cast iron would be cheaper) and a window to show the escapement (not a necessity.)
