Small silver proto hand-pin with ringed off-set head, on upper part of which are three beads divided by four stamped collars, the lower is a flat plate with a panel of reserved ornament of two lobed spirals springing from a central pelta, This has the remains of niello inlay. The back of the beads is flat with three pairs of radiating incised lines. The main shank is broken off below a slight swelling.

Rare pin-type ancestral to the medieval hand-pin series of Scotland and Ireland, with finds widely scattered. Usually inlaid with enamel, niello is more typical of the late Roman period.
