- Description
-
Gold brooch of hollow construction taking the form of a six-petalled rose with an open, circular centre; the petals are inscribed. The reverse is also worked with a smaller six-petalled flower aligned differently and defined by areas of cross-hatching. The pin is integrated into the design by being cross-hatched or left plain as appropriate and is articulated by a swivelling motion which is likely to be achieved by an internal pin.

- Curator's comments
- The inscription and the foliate scrolls would originally have been enamelled. Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface gave a result of approximately 64% for gold, 23% for silver and 13% for copper. Microscopic examination found no identifiable traces of enamel.
