Earthenware tile, with relief-moulded decoration of a lion wearing a coronet and facing to the left, with one paw raised, surrounded by a strapwork border. Glazed in blue, green, black and rust on a white ground. Partial factory backstamp.

- Curator's comments
- One of a group of three tiles (see 1999,3-10, 1 and 2) based on Spanish tiles of the 16th century. For examples with similar interlocking strapwork borders, see 1887,10-10,8, OA 4376 and AF87. This tile is a direct copy of those that decorated buildings erected by Charles V in the Royal Place in Seville.
