Icon; painted; the half-length figure of the Mother of God is depicted in traditional pose gently holding the Christ child who embraces her. The Virgin wears a purple 'maphorion' with Bethlehem stars.

- Curator's comments
- For the iconography see cat. no. 12 and cat. nos 35 and 41 for other examples. The painting is executed in the style of the 16th century upon the uncertain remains of earlier paint layers and gesso and was probably commissioned by an Old Believer.
