Brown stoneware flask (apothecary jar) of square oviform shape. The back moulded in relief with a pelican in its piety. Each side with female masks and scrolls and Phoenix arising from the flames. Front with the inscription with the apothecary's name and the date and lion and griffin with pestles and mortars within chain pattern cartouches. The shoulders with foliage. Painted pewter screw-lid and footrim, the lid also inscribed with name and date.

- Another apothecary jar made in Creussen and inscribed with the name of the doctor Johann May active in Coburg is in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (The Miss Elizabeth W. Lewis Collection, 1905-236 (no.77)).
