- The subject is taken from the fourth Book of Revelations, verse 5. See L. Pearson, 'The Revelations Tiles of John Pollard Seddon at Sunningwell Church, Oxfordshire', in Glazed Expressions, No. 48, Winter 2003, p. 18. Similar floor schemes can be found at St. Padarn, Llanbadarn Fawr, Aberystwyth, Wales, at St Jerome, Llangwyn Uchaf, near Usk.
Designs for this series are in the J.P. Seddon archive in the Dept. of Prints and Drawings in the V&A, accession numbers D 2012-1896, D 2096-1898 and D 1765-1896, all show the design incorporated into a floor scheme for an unspecified church.
