Brooch and matching earrings; gold with hardstone or pietra dura mosaic; each item set with mosaic plaque depicting 'Doves of Pliny'; gold settings decorated with applied wirework. Contained in original green velvet case of Torrini, Florence. Label and maker's mark.

- Design of 'Doves of Pliny' based on celebrated Roman mosaic from Hadrian's villa, now in Capitoline Museum, Rome, thought to be a Roman copy of the Greek mosaic described by Pliny, hence the title 'Pliny's Doves.
